Best, Worst, Learned & Grateful

Best, Worst, Learned, Grateful

For years, since before my youngest could speak, these are the four questions which have formed the informal structure of our dinner conversations. What was the best part of your day? What was the worst part of your day? What did you learn? And, what are your grateful for?

It is this ritual that provided us with peace at dinner tonight. It was an opportunity to reflect and connect; it always has been. What surprised me tonight was that, in the midst of a day that seemed so extraordinarily terrible, the best part of the day for all four of us was “right now.” This is our typical (non-pandemic) family response. We were grateful for the same things we were grateful for since the existence of our family; each other, food and a place to live.

I encourage you to ask your family member these questions tomorrow. I encourage you to start talking about these things together. We have everything we need; each other. WE, Caring About US.
