Today is day 8 of our social distancing. I went to the grocery store and to vote on Tuesday. I acted like a surgeon entering an operating room when entering the world and coming back out and to my home. My husband went to a drive through for prescriptions. My children and husband have played cards and played on screens for these days.
Because of the professional and personal hats I wear, I’ve been communicating……a lot. I have been trying to share hope, identify strengths as I hear them and identify opportunities for strategic partnership. My ultimate goal is to help people cope and change. That can be a tall order on an ordinary day, more challenging during times of stress.
One of the things I identified last week and started to say was: we are going to ask Americans to do three things they don’t like: 1) Be Uncomfortable 2) Be Alone (physically) and 3) Make Decisions Based on thinking about others. We have risen to the challenge as far as I can tell. No, it isn’t perfect and some people continue to act like they are the only ones on the plant, but those people have always existed.
If I was to assess Americans I would say we have seen some of the greatest acts of innovation and kindness since the last World War. We are fighting two wars, “One, the disease and one, our fear,” said Gov. Andrew Cuomo from NY on Thursday.
Light, hope and joy spread like virus but are a lot more fun. Spread hope, kindness, joy and ideas like they are confetti. Celebrate our ability to innovate and return to our character as Americans. No politics, no BS. Kindness and Innovation….ALL……DAY…..LONG.
